It Only Takes A Spark

We used to sing this song all the while during my High School days. It is also called “Pass It On“.

It Only Takes A Spark
by Kurt Kaiser (1969)

It only takes a spark, to get a fire going (going)
And soon all those around, can warm up in glowing (glowing)
That’s how it is with God’s love (A–hh!)
Once you’ve experienced it
You spread his love to everyone;
You want to pass it on (pass it on, pass it on)

What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding (budding)
The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming (blooming)
That’s how it is with God’s love (A–hh!)
Once you’ve experienced it
You want to sing, it’s fresh like spring
You want to pass it on (pass it on, pass it on)

I wish for you my friend, this happiness that I have found (I have found)
You can depend on him, it matters not where you are bound (you are bound)
I’ll shout it from the mountain top (A–hh!)
I want the world to know, the Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on (pass it on, pass it on)

  4. For real… Junior High, 9th grade, I had to play guitar after school on campus and had no clue that a hand full of us could prevail. Thanks Mrs. Wonderly! (my Reading Teacher). JESUS yesterday, today, and forever.

  5. This was sung at our wedding in July 1974. I love the words but as the years have passed, the meaning of the words has become even deeper for I love to help, encourage and pass on to others about the wondrous love of God. Like the song says, it only takes a spark to get a fire going and if that spark can ignite the love and warmth of my Lord and Saviour so I can pass it on to others, then they too can warm up in its glowing, and continue to “Pass it On” – the wondrous love of God is greater far then tongue or pen can ever recite – you must experience it in order to ignite that spark and pass it on. 🔥🙏

  6. A dear friend died recently and she had arranged that our Church Choir sing this at her funeral. ‘The Lord of love has come to us – we want to pass it on’
